Merck Biologics Development Center Rahway, New Jersey
Description
Hodess delivered a network of 19 controlled environmental rooms for Merck’s biologics development center in Rahway, NJ, supporting the site’s biopharmaceutical operations. The scope included six -20°C walk-in freezers, one 4°C GMO Grade D cold chamber, and 12 additional 4°C cold chambers.
All rooms were constructed using pharma-grade, high-resistance uPVC insulated panels rated to FM 4880, with self-supporting coldroom shells topped with OSHA-compliant safety railing. The GMP Grade D room incorporated HEPA filtration to meet cleanliness requirements, while custom control systems throughout the facility were built to CFR 21 Part 11 compliance standards. The installation also required intricate refrigerant pipe routing to rooftop condensing units, ensuring reliable performance across the full range of temperature-controlled environments.
